Georgia         Term 1 reflections
I had a great start to the term with sports, class trips, ANZAC day and much more. Triathlon at the start of the term was great. We had bike wise before we did triathlon. I came fifth in triathlon I was very proud of myself. Athletics was great I got a 4 in 100m I wasn’t expecting that. I did really well in shot put I just about came 3rd in shot put but I came 4th I still got a 4.
The year sevens went to Invercargill for a day while the year eights went to Bluff on a walk. We went to Demo World, The Museum and The Water Treatment Plant to earn about where all our waste goes. We found out then lots of things can go down the toilet such as pipes, sunglasses and even money. At the Museum we did some art work. We made ice bergs out of polystyrene and we painted it. The week before Easter everybody in room 8 dressed up in there onesies because it was Easter. We also did an Easter egg hunt for the little kids.
On the last Thursday of the term it was ANZAC day for Limehills school. I was the one who organised the whole day since the year eights were away at Deep Cove. We made wreaths to take down to the War Memorial. The speakers at the service were Maisie, Jack and I.
I was lucky enough to get a end of term certificate.

                                                      Term Two Reflections
Term two has been very busy, we had an Enviro week at school, trips and many other things. Enviroweek was in week one and we had different rotations like a vision map of the school, MRS LE and going to Kowhai Reach.

We had the Enviro hui so lots of people came to our school to see what we do. I did the cooking  along with Amie, Monique and Josh S. We cooked their morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. I was also involved in baking the kowhai cookies so I spoke to the hui groups about baking along with Connor and Hannah.

I got my PAT results back and I think I did well. My goals are to work on my maths like common multiples, factors and prime numbers and also more reading.

We have been learning Shakespeare with Mrs Smith. We have been learning Shakespeare’s language. We got a list of his words that he calls his actors and we got to put them in a sentence and got to call someone in our class names for fun. We also had the New Zealand Playhouse come to our school to perform a Shakespeare. St Thomas’ and Dipton also came. It wasn’t a normal play, we got to chose the theme of it. We got to chose a movie to base it on and we chose Hunt For The Wilder people.

In week four room seven and eight went to Invercargill to see the Kakapo chicks. They are very cute. We went to the Southland District Council Chambers to ask Mayor Gary Tong some questions for our writing to the Southland District Council. Then we to the stadium to do cycling at the velodrome and netball and basketball. I am injured so Hannah, Mia, Trey and I went to the Ronald McDonald house to see Helene who works there. We saw the family room and went to the children's ward and the maternity ward to see what it was like. After we finished there we went back to the stadium to watch the rest of the class.

We have been writing to the Southland District Council about an issue in the community. I am writing about making Winton vibrant  and putting fruit trees on the side of the Winton track.

This week is the last week of drama with Mrs Collie. We had Mrs Collie for the first five weeks and for the last five weeks we are have Mrs Varian teaching us French.

For our novel study this term we are reading to Room three and four. We have been reading Roald Dahl books and writing about them and now we are storytellers to Room three and four.

Overall I think term two has been great I have achieved many things. It will be exciting to see what term 3 brings us.

   Athletics Day
“Get up Georgia and Baylee it's athletics day” yelled grumpy mum. oh yeah its athletics day. I better get ready quickly, it's already 7:30. “Mum do you know where my Limehills top is”.

We are at Dipton school. Our day begins. I get out of the car and go and put my bag down and went to find Mrs Brand to get my card. I finally found her and I got my blue card. I went to the 11 year old girls line. Mr Crane started talking. “ The 5 and 6 year olds to the 60m. 10 11 12 year olds you have 10 minutes till 200m.

The 200m is over I didn't get into the finals but we have way more events to do like shot put, long jump, discus, 100m and high jump  I am going to set goal, I am going to try and get a 3 or a 4 in shot put.

YES!! I achieved my goal I got a 4 in shot put. I just about came 3rd but i came 4th  by one centimetre, just one centimetre. But I still got a 4. I am very proud of myself.

On your marks, get set,  BANG!!! I am off. I was sprinting as fast as I could. I ran past the finish line to Mrs Hamilton. She writes on my card. I look on it and it's a 4!! I can't believe that I didn't even train because I was injured.

It’s time to go home now. I have had a fantastic but exhausting day. We are home yay now I can relax. “ Georgia get in the car you are getting your 11 year old jab. Oh no I hate jabs.

My Speech 2016

It's going to be another cold one, about minus three. I can see my breath already and I am standing in my house. I won't call it a house it's more like a garage. It's my home and it has been for five years. I share it  with two other families. We have no running water and a toilet that doesn't flush. This is what people are still going through after the Christchurch earthquake that was five years ago. So you might  think that people's houses are all fixed and the cleanup is finished well it's not.

The clean up for the earthquake was huge. 400 000 tons of liquefactions came bubbling out the ground. Did you know there was a record number of port-a-loos that they got from all over the country and even overseas. There were thousands of them. There were even situations where there was only one toilet per street. Front end loaders went through the streets to clear the way so emergency vehicles could get through. They made piles and piles of bricks, busses, cars and even bodies in a couple of unfortunate situations. It killed about 185 people, injured 2000 and 164 were serious after this terrible 6.3 earthquake. The clean up could take up to ten years and cost 15 billion to clean up. The earthquake is number three in New Zealand's recorded natural disasters.

This quake has affected many people not just adults but kids to. Adults are still fighting for their houses to be rebuilt, insurance or just things fixed in their houses. It could be just the smallest things like cracks in the walls, uneven floors or roofs and many more. Kids on the other hand don't have to worry about that kind of stuff and are in a different situation, but they are still affected by it in their own way. When schools do earthquake drills kids get frightened and brings back the memories of the one that hit in 2011. Even a little shake does.

There is a man called Sam Johnson who has started up a volunteer club called SVA. SVA stands for student volunteer army. This volunteer club started after the Christchurch earthquake. Sam started this volunteer group by a facebook page which evolved into the student volunteer army. A lot of people have participated in this event and still are. 1/6th of the University of Canterbury student body are joining each year to “do good”. Sam has shared the SVA leadership role in over 13 countries, largely in disaster zones including Vanuatu, Japan, Nepal and much more.

I was right it was about maybe minus two but now I am warm all curled up in my blankets on my bed roll that I have slept in for five years. I am having my dinner it is a cup of packet soup because I don't have enough money to buy proper ingredients for real soup. I miss my house, my bed and yummy food. I wonder when I will get a real house but the rent is so high now I guess i'll just have to wait another 5 years. So how do you feel about the earthquake now, I’m going to do my bit, I hope you are going to do yours.

The way you always give me a hug after my sport to say great work

The special way you yell at me when I’m on the netball court

I love

How you make me my favourite chocolate cake for my birthday

When you warm me up after my netball game

I love it when you call me sweetheart and sweetie

You are my mum and you will be in my heart forever

The annual Limehills/Dipton athletics day is finally here. A week ago it seemed like it would never come but finally it's here.

The first event my age group competed in was the 200m, I came 2nd in the 200m race and I got into the final for 200m. I was so excited about getting into the final I couldn't stop talking about it. Next we competed in long jump and I was horrible at it because long jump is my worst event and I got a one in long jump. The last event we competed in was high jump and high jump is my favourite event, I jumped a meter 18 so I jumped higher than I normally do. Doing high jump has given me confidence and I got better and better while doing high jump.

The playground, There were lots of people on the playground because it had so much things to play like the jungle gym, the flying fox, the pole and the wiggle bridge. I almost came off the pole but I saved myself by just jumping off so I didn't end up hurting myself then I had to stop playing on the playground and eat my food.

Agh training, I hate training but it's worth it because you do much better and you are going to get bigger scores. The training we did was discus, shot put, running, high jump and long jump. The training really helped me so I did much better and I also got bigger numbers, The training made me work harder than normal and I felt great when athletics was finished.

Swale shield time, I was so excited to see who won the swale shield. Guess what Limehills has won the shield once again, I was so happy that we got it we ran around the field with it. It’s going back in the Limehills hall once again and it’s going to stay there until next year. Limehills got 18 points and Dipton got 17 points, we won by one point it was so close and we could of lost the shield if we didn't keep getting 4s and 3s.

Athletics is over and everyone is tired just wanting to go home, everyone is happy we won and we just want to go home and rest for the next day of school.

Athletics Day
Athletics has been great again this year but high jump has been awesome because I jumped a meter 18. I felt so happy with myself but I didn't get through to central.

The AMP triathlon

I was in the 2016 AMP triathlon and I did the longest distance. I did the eight lengths in the pool, four laps on the bike and then the run. I was so tired by the time I got to the run and I had enough by the time I got to the end. I said that I didn't want to do it again because it was to long. Now comes the spot prizes. The prizes were four bikes we thought I wasn't going to get a bike because every other year I don't get a prize and this year we heard 3 low numbers and then my number. My number was 147 and they called my number out,I went down and stood beside the bike that I won.

Steel game
On sunday the 19/6/16  I went to the steel game in invercargill at the stadium. The steel had a awesome start to the game and they versed magic. At half time a lady threw a netball into the crowd and I leaned over a lot of people and caught it, 3 minutes before half time I went down to see james off the radio because I had to get three goals in the hoop and there was two other people shooting to try and win the phone, when that half started we got taken onto the court and had to get the goals in. It took me two attempts to get the first goal in but it only took me one attempt to get the two other goals in. When I got all the goals in I got first and I got given a bag with the steel warmup top and the samsung galaxy 6s phone in it. I was so happy I couldn't stop talking to mum about it.

Athletics day
“ Girls time to get up” said dad. Do we have to I said, Yes it is athletics day. Yah I quickly get up and get ready. Getting all my gear ready as I head out the door. The time has come we are going to Dipton to fight for the swale shield.

We have just arrived at Dipton school. All you can see are groups of Limehills and Dipton kids. From the corner of my eye I spot Maisie and Georgia I run over to them and ask them what I am meant to be doing. Hi and welcome to our annual athletics day said Mr Crane. The day was just about to start.

On your marks get set go yelled Mr Crane. The little kids are running the 60m track like little cheetahs. They kept looking back to make sure they were beating their components. The parents were saying good job you have just about finished your race. They were running back puffing and talking to each other telling them what placing they got.

Click Click I am following the little kids to their events  to take photos for our school newsletter. I went ot the egg and spoon race and then the sack races. I got lots of photos of them competing. I started to work my way around the school. I got to shot put and all you could hear were them thumping and landing on the ground.

Time for shot put. I have lots and of of butterflies in my stomach. I put the camera down and picked up the 2kg ball.
“Hannah put your chicken wing up” said Mrs Strachn. I start to bend my knees and throw with all my effort but the shot put go’s out the boundary lines. My last turn comes I bend my knees and throw, boom the shot put hit the ground. Yah I got a 3. Mrs Strachn calls me over so she can write my score on my card. I was very proud of myself.

Discus time. We head over to Mrs Brand so we could get all the information we needed for discus. Hannah your turn said Mrs Brand. I pick up the discus step into the circle and throw. You could see the discus flying through the sky. Good job say all the girls as I walk past. I am very proud of myself for achieving my athletics goal.

Relays have just started. You could hear the relay bats hitting against each other . Mr Crane calls out adult relays. Now all the kids are trying to find their parents so they can force them to do the Limehills relays. Nicky Churstain, Noel Mcfarlane, Bleur Vining and Emma Hammond volunteered. We were coming first and then the baton got passed on to Nicky and on the 2nd corner she got passed by the Dipton father. Even know we come second we are all very proud of our parents that contributed for us.
Running around the field yelling out Limehills. We have won the swale shield. We are so happy that we have won for the 4th year in a row

Term one reflection

This term has been a very busy one with sport, trips and ANZAC Day. The start of the term started with triathlon which is a whole school activity. I challenged myself this year competing in elite against the best triathletes of Limehills School. I was proud of finishing in fifth place. I am going to try and get fourth or higher next year. We then had athletics. I was proud of myself coming third overall and making it to Central and coming fifth in the 200 meters, sixth in 100 meters and fourth in the 800 meters. The Year sevens then went on a trip to Invercargill where we went to demo world and the museum and the water treatment plant where we learnt about where all our waste goes.

Next I competed in the Southland Secondary School triathlon.  In my team I had Amie, Rylan and I. We ended up coming first in the mixed team and I was very proud of that. We have also been learning French and it is very fun and I’m learning alot from it. We then had a fun day.  All of the class dressed up in their onesies and went down and made an Easter hunt for the little kids.

On the last Thursday of the term was ANZAC day.  The year eight’s were away in Deep Cove so the year seven’s had to step up in the role of them becoming the house leaders and organizing ANZAC Day. Georgia was the main role in organizing it and Jack, Georgia and I were the speakers. On Thursday it was the end of term assembly and the year eights were arriving back. I was lucky enough to get a really special end of term certificate.

Term Two reflection

This term we started off  learning about MRS LE and had a visit from teachers from around Southland who belonged to an Enviro school.  They came to look at why we are GreenGold. We also had a special visit from Sam Johnson who talked to us about SVA and then he got to look at our school in action. Mrs Collie came in for half the term and taught us drama skills. I got my PAT results back and I think I did really well in some things and need to improve on other topics like maths and vocab. We have been learning about Shakespeare in Room seven.  We are planning on creating a play about Shakespeare. We also had a fun trip to Invercargill and we talked to Mayor Tong about the problems in Southland and why we think they need changed. I did mine on the abandoned shops on the main road of Winton. We had a very cool time going to visit the baby kakapo at the Kakapo Recovery Unit and the best bit is our school has recently adopted a kakapo called Sinbad.  We then had an amazing time at the velodrome playing netball, basketball and biking. I loved the biking and I wish I could go back again. We also got to be teachers for an hour because one of the reading groups in Room 8 gets to read a Roald Dahl book to Mrs Turnbull and Mr Murray's classes. We have made a paper bag that will be shown to the parents at parent teacher interviews about the book we read. We also have been lucky enough to be learning French with Mrs Varaine and Bella and Bryce are very lucky because they are going over to Paris these holidays so they may be able to say some French words. On the last week of school we had Maori language week and we had to create a poster and act out a play about a maori legend that our house leaders Tinky and Mia pulled out of a hat. Overall I had a very fun term and learnt a lot and can’t wait for term three.

Triathlon
My Wednesday wasn’t a normal one, it was a fast competitive day.

It started with a whistle and they were off. Amie splashing everywhere passing and overtaking other swimmers as if her life depended on it. She started sprinting before I knew it. Rylan was off speeding down the road like he was in a big police chase.

I wanted nervously for him to return, then I saw him he was approaching me with speed, in a few seconds I was off running down the road admiring the houses as I ran then a boy was in range. I sprinted like I was on fire, I passed him and sprinted around a bend.

Into a dark black forest, I passed a boy on a tiny little track. If you took one wrong step you could find yourself in a deep black stream below. I carried on, a boy was in view I needed to pass him, my life was on the line. I carried on following him, he turned the wrong way into a dark overgrown place, I passed him I yelled back “wrong way, don’t go over the cones” he yelled back thanks. I carried on and found a boy starting to slow down, I ran he started running. I kept going I got him.

I carried on passing another girl, she had long blonde hair and was stumbling. I ran through a huge fence, you didn’t want to get caught.  There was a girl in front of me, I was about a dangerous 10 metres away but she ran in a dark place over the slippery black stones. So I passed her yet she hadn’t realised I could have left her or help her so I yelled and said this way. She heard and turned around. I had to pass a terrifying big tree that had fallen, it was slippery, I nearly fell then I saw the trees that was the finish. I ran sprinting, I heard some Central Southland kids saying go little kiddies.. Over the finish line people was cheering for me.

My face was the colour of a fire engine. We came first, I’m proud it pushed me to the limits but I completed it.

Athletics

“Rhhh” Winnie stop tugging my sheets! Time to get up. Quickly! Mmmm I know that smell anywhere. OMG it’s Athletics Day when there’s spaghetti cooking. See you Winnie. Wish me luck.

As i arrive at Dipton School there are swarms of red and blue everywhere. I look around and the first person I spot is Lexie. I know she will do well today. 15 minutes later I hear “five year olds to the starting line please”. I run over to watch them, my hearts pumping as I yell “go Limehills!” Then after their race I hear 200 metres ages 8-12 year olds. Now I’ve got butterflies really badly, then the Dipton Principal says 11 year old girls heat’s, butterflies explode in my tummy.

‘Take your marks, set, go’ I’m off. I can hear people on the sideline yelling go Limehills. I get over the finish line, I have won Yah. next up is the throwing events. I didn’t get a placing this time though. Now it’s high jump, I cleared it but only got a two in high jump and long jump. It’s 100 metres now. Mr Murray says sit down and zip it. I’m crossing my fingers that I’m not in Mia’s race Yah. OK take your marks, set, go, I run like I’ve been hit by a bit of lightning, I won. Then I sit down, it dawns on me Mia’s in the finals, take your marks, set, go, I’m in the lead but a tall dark shadow towers above me. I hear deep breathing, then a blue shirted tall blonde haired girl passes like a cheetah after its prey. She got it, a  five   second kill. Mia won the race, next was relays. We came in second, blue was at the front. There was an adult race, red trickled down the field and won the race followed by dots of blue.

And the Swale Shield goes to Limehills. I’m proud. I’m through to Central. Bring it on!
